Antique and Medieval metropolitan cities
The complex of baths, palaestra, latrine (antique toilets) and the theatre reflect the wealth of the antique city of Salamis. The Royal Tombs show the burial traditions of the period of 8th and 6th century B.C. The rich artifacts found in the tombs provide much information about trading connections and the life style of the times.
The old city of Famagusta is surrounded by massive Venetian city walls. Within the walls are magnificent edifices of yesteryear - the former St. Nikolaus Cathedral, now Lala Mustafa Pascha Mosque, was the coronation place of the Lusignan Kings; the Othello Tower and the Palazzo del Proveditore are also located in the old city. Opposite Othello tower is the famous Café Petek, which is a good place to enjoy a coffee and some pastries or other local foodstuffs.
