The Voice of Spring in North Cyprus - Provisional Itinerary
Enjoy the best of North Cyprus this spring with this fantastic 7-night tour. During the tour you will get to enjoy all the best sites of North Cyprus, including the beautiful harbour town of Girne (Kyrenia), the magnificent crusader castles of St. Hilarion and Kantara, the divided capital of Nicosia (Lefkoşa), the ancient ruins of Salamis and the old city of Famagusta. The highlight of the tour will include a delightful evening of dinner and classical music at the stunning Bellapais Abbey. For those who enjoy culture and history, this is a holiday not to be missed.
Included within the tour is a 7-night half-board (breakfast and dinner) stay at the five-star Colony Hotel in central Girne (Kyrenia). The Colony Hotel is a truly lovely accommodation, which provides five-star service, excellent facilities (including a roof-top swimming pool and a Spa and Wellness Centre), and comfortable, elegant rooms. Being right in the heart of Girne (Kyrenia) it is also the perfect base from which to explore the local area on an evening or on free days.
Provisional Tour Itinerary (subject to alterations):
Day 1: Arrive in North Cyprus
Arrive in Spring in North Cyprus, and settle into your five-star hotel right in the heart of Girne (Kyrenia).
Day 2: Kyrenia, Bellapais and St. Hilarion Castle
After an introductory talk, there will be a short walk from the hotel to the harbor of Girne (Kyrenia). Visit of Girne (Kyrenia) Castle, which was built in the Byzantine era and enlarged during the Frankish rule. This will be followed by a visit to the Shipwreck Museum where you can view 2300-year-old cargo. On finishing the tour of Girne (Kyrenia), travel to the Five Finger Mountain range to visit the crusader castle St. Hilarion. This fortification protected the north coast against several invaders. In the afternoon continue to the Abbey of Bellapais. The Abbey was built in the 13th century and belonged to the Premonstratensian Order. Lawrence Durrell immortalized this village in his book “Bitter Lemons”.

Day 3: Famagusta and the ancient ruins of Salamis
In a coach/bus travel to the Barnabas Monastery and visit the archeological and icon museum. Saint Barnabas is deemed to be the founder of the Orthodox Church in Cyprus. At the excavation site of Salamis, there will be a visit to the Palaestra, the Latrine (antic toilets) and the Roman theatre. In the afternoon visit of Gazi Mağusa /Famagusta with its impressing fortifications built in the 16th century. The St. Nicolaus Cathedral is situated in the center of the old town and was once the location for coronation ceremonies. Since 1571 the cathedral has been used as a mosque.
Day 4: Nicosia (Lefkoşa)
Travel to the capital of the island. Walk through the Turkish part of the divided capital and visit the Mevlevi Tekke, once the place where the Whirling Dervishes lived and performed their ceremonies. Continue to the Selimiye Mosque, the former St. Sophie Cathedral, the Bedesten, the lively Bazar and the Büyük Han. In the afternoon explore the other half of the capital by crossing the Green Line to South Cyprus and Europe. Later in the afternoon return to North Cyprus and visit the Ethnographic museum with a coffee break accompanied by music.
Day 5: Kantara Castle, Spring Orchids and Wildflowers
Travel east along the north coast to Kantara castle. Enjoy impressive views over the great plain Mesaoria, the north coast and the bay of Gazi Mağusa/Famagusta. During spring the hills in this area are covered with white and pink flowers of cyclamen and flowering orchids. In the afternoon there will be a visit to the hidden Byzantine monastery of Antiphonitis followed by a traditional Cypriote picnic in the Alevkaya forest. According to the weather conditions, a small walk will be optional.
Day 6: Free day followed by an evening concert at Bellapais Abbey
This day is spent in anticipation of the music highlight of the tour. In the early evening travel to Bellapais and enjoy a traditional Cypriot dinner in the ancient atmosphere at the monastery. After dinner, the concert takes place in the refectory of the monastery.
Day 7: Free day or optional tour to Güzelyurt, the ruins of Soli and Vouni Palace in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains
Travel to the small town of Güzelyurt. This region is famous for its citrus groves. There will be a short stroll through the weekly market where the farmers sell their fresh vegetables, fruits and more. Continue to the St. Mamas Church where some interesting icons are displayed as well as a visit to the archeology museum nearby. Further in the west is the excavation site of Soli. Visit of the early Christian basilica of Soli with its floor mosaics and a Roman theater. The sightseeing ends with the visit to the remains of the Palace of Vouni which was built during the Persian rule in the 5th Century B.C. From the palace, ruins enjoy great views over the Troodos Mountains and the bay of Güzelyurt.
Day 8: Departure from hotel
